The capacity to source the biographies and achievements of notable Newingtonians will, in our Sesquicentenary year, just be two clicks away. By 2013, we will no longer only rely on only the memories of those present at the time to fill in the gaps anecdotally or in folklore.
A carefully and accurately researched database will be an online resource to record and search for those graduates who have gone on from the classrooms and corridors of Newington to outstanding careers in Australian politics, sport, leadership, research, humanitarian and artist endeavour to name just a small sample of what our Archivist David Roberts has complied to date.
This Notable Newingtonians database will:
- Identify role models for current students in a wide range of fields of endeavour
- Be searchable by name, field of endeavour and time period
- Present its content in a range of formats and outputs
- Link to other online resources, notably Australian Dictionary of Biography entries, wherever available
Notable Newingtonians will continue to be added to beyond the Sesquicentenary celebrations, providing an accessible, up to date and enduring record of the contributions of Newingtonians to the wider world over time. It will provide great flexibility in organising and presenting the content for different purposes. Currently the database contains 255 entries with draft brief (2 or 3 line) biographical summaries and fields of endeavour identified.
If you know a Notable Newingtonian who, you feel may not be already on our ‘digital radar’ just let our School Archivist, Mr David Roberts, know and ensure his inclusion in our database.
