vet construction program

The VET Construction program has been running successfully at the College for a number of years. Students gain skills in planning and organising work, measuring and calculating, reading and interpreting plans, safe and environmentally sustainable work practices and the use of construction tools and equipment.

The construction students have designed and built a number of construction projects such as beds for the Salvation Army Oasis program, planter boxes and garden beds for the College, laid concrete slabs at Wyvern, completed wall and floor tiling projects and are about to undertake the construction of a timber deck.

The students couple the practical experiences they gain at the College with a work experience program within the construction industry. Alan Latunipulu completed his Year 11 work experience at SE Martin in 2011 where he performed tasks such as concreting, assembling wall and roof frames and general carpentry work on the extension to a residence. The company was so impressed Alan was offered an apprenticeship when he finished year 12 and spent many of his holidays working with the company.
