F1 in Schools competition

The F1 in Schools competition is a program that is run across the world with over a million students competing every year. The brief is to design, build, collaborate, test and race a miniature F1 car, as well as promote your team and sponsors to the community. The emphasis is on collaboration and sponsorship which helps develop skills and knowledge about what it takes to build a business – skills which are extremely valuable for prospective engineers and designers.

F1 in Schools Program has been a part of Co-curricular since 2012.  The competition is based on Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Learning. It has gained more recognition within the College over the last couple of years with more students applying each year.

The competition has gained higher recognition in the Newington Community with more students applying to form team every year.

2011

F1 Regional Final

  • “Velocity” and the “zipper effect” won their respective classes at the regional final with the Velocity team being awarded 1st place in the senior professional team at the state titles.

2010

F1 in Schools Regional Final, Best Engineered Design & Outstanding Industry Collaboration and 2010 Development Class State Champions

  • Year 9 team was placed first in their class and second overall in the event. The Year 9 team went on to dominate at the State Titles picking up these two awards that gave them the right to compete for NSW at the national titles.
  • Team Velocity performed extremely well in all areas of the National Championships and was awarded the silver medal.
